How to Prevent Light-Colored ABS from Turning Yellow

τα τελευταία νέα της εταιρείας για How to Prevent Light-Colored ABS from Turning Yellow

ABS is a high-performance plastic with exceptional versatility, widely applied across numerous industries due to its excellent impact resistance, heat resistance, dimensional stability, and cost-effectiveness. These properties make it particularly suitable for home appliance housings and automotive interior and exterior trim components. Despite its many advantages, ABS possesses a notable inherent limitation: poor weather resistance.

The root cause of this limitation lies in the unsaturated double bonds present in the ABS molecular chain, specifically within the polybutadiene rubber component. Under environmental exposure conditions—particularly in the presence of light, heat, and oxygen—these unsaturated bonds undergo degradation reactions that lead to the formation of chromophoric groups, resulting in yellowing of the material's color and deterioration of mechanical properties over time. Light-colored ABS grades, including white, beige, and gray, are especially susceptible to yellowing upon prolonged exposure.

This yellowing phenomenon poses a significant challenge for manufacturers. Light-colored products are highly valued for their clean, elegant, and premium visual appearance, which has historically made them preferred choices among consumers. When yellowing occurs, it severely compromises the aesthetic quality of finished parts and negatively impacts customer experience and satisfaction. Consequently, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the home appliance and automotive sectors have established increasingly stringent weathering requirements for light-colored components to ensure long-term color stability and product quality.-+-+
